Join Us for the Rowe Labor Day Men’s Community Zoom Gathering
Fall greetings, Beloveds!
David Reynolds, Michael Currier, and Andrew Plummer invite you to a Rowe Labor Day Community Call on Zoom on Wednesday, December 4th, from 7 to 8:30 PM.
This is an opportunity to catch up with old friends and maybe make some new ones. If you know anyone who is “Rowe-curious,” please invite them as well.
Let’s gather in the warmth of community as we move into the year’s dark season. To mark the winter holidays, this community call will be a group reading of queer author Truman Capote’s short story “A Christmas Memory”.
Make some ginger tea or spike your eggnog, then settle in as we each take turns reading a section. You are also welcome just to listen if you prefer not to read.
About the story
Originally published in Mademoiselle magazine in December 1956, this tiny gem of a holiday story starts with 7-year-old Buddy inaugurating the holiday season by crying out to his cousin: “It’s fruitcake weather!” So begins an unforgettable portrait of an unusual and enduring friendship between two innocent souls–one young and one old–and the memories they create from beloved holiday rituals.
After the story, we will have time to share our own holiday traditions and memories. How do you mark this time of year?
Get a hard copy, or you can find a free digital version here.
You can also listen to it here.
Please pre-register with the form below, and a zoom link will be sent to you. If you invite a guest, they will need to pre-register as well.
We look forward to being together.
