Course Description:
This course will help you start or expand an individual donor program, with an emphasis on strategies that anyone (especially volunteers!) can carry out. You’ll learn about the elements of successful fundraising, how to implement different fundraising strategies, build and support a fundraising team, increase your confidence in asking for money (including personal one-on-one solicitations), and create a fundraising plan. The course is interactive and provides opportunities for learning from your peers.

Each session is 2 hours long, including a 10 min break.

● Fundraising Basics: Elements of Successful Fundraising –
This session will focus on fundraising trends and fundraising principles (ie, making your case for support, the importance of relationships, building fundraising teams)

- Getting over the fear of asking, identifying the best prospects to solicit, practice asking

Presenters Bios
Kim Klein is internationally known as a consultant, trainer and facilitator. She has been in fundraising for over four decades and has presented workshops in all 50 states and 25 foreign countries. She has a certificate in Spiritual Direction and believes the role of nonprofits is to, in the words of Peter Maurin, “create a world in which it is easy to be good.” She is the author of five books and her classic book, Fundraising for Social Change, is now in its 8 th edition. She is retired from teaching at the School of Social Welfare at UC Berkeley where she lives with her wife, Stephanie Roth, and their two cats. She has been a frequent presenter at Rowe since 1989.
Stephanie Roth (she/her) has been a trainer, consultant, coach and author with a focus on fundraising and board development for over thirty years. Her most recent staff position was as development director at the Community Land Trust of West Marin. She has served on many boards, including of Jewish Voice for Peace, where she continues to be an active member, and where she helped launch their successful grassroots fundraising program in 2002. Stephanie has trained and written widely on the topic of fundraising and organizational development, including as the co-author (with Haley Bash) of a new edition (July, 2025) of The Accidental Fundraiser: A Step-by-Step Guide to Raising Money for Your Cause. She lives in Berkeley, California, with her wife, Kim Klein, and their two cats.
Wanda Scott
CAP®, CFRE, Founder and Principal Consultant of Wanda Scott & Associates, is a fundraising and development professional with over 20 years’ experience in the nonprofit sector. Wanda has successfully led development and advancement teams in nonprofit and university settings, including at the Pacific School of Religion. Wanda has established major gifts and corporate giving programs and fundraised for both capital and annual campaigns. As an experienced teacher, mentor and coach, Wanda empowers boards and executive leadership to build fundraising capacity and create a culture of philanthropy. Wanda is a native of Cleveland, Ohio, and loves all things Frida Kahlo, 80s music, baking, traveling, and hiking.

Haley Bash (they/she) is a grassroots fundraiser, distributed organizer, and facilitator with 15 plus years of experience in the social movement sector. They are the founder and executive director of Donor Organizer Hub, a launchpad and community for people who fundraise for movement causes from their networks. Haley launched Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Bay Area’s peer-to-peer fundraising program. They are the co-author (with Stephanie Roth) of a new edition (July, 2025) of The Accidental Fundraiser: A Step-by-Step Guide to Raising Money for Your Cause. Haley lives in Oakland, California, with their spouse and two cats
Priscilla Hung (she/ella/她) brings 25 years of experience in fundraising and philanthropy to advance equity and justice. Most recently, Priscilla was the Director of Resource Mobilization at the AAPI Civic Engagement Fund and AAPI Democracy Fund. She is the former Executive Director of the Grassroots Institute for Fundraising Training (GIFT), which was home to the Grassroots Fundraising Journal and Money for Our Movements: A Social Justice Fundraising Conference.
