“Moving, helpful, inspiring, and tender. Memoir as Medicine makes you want to get up off your butt and write the heart and soul of your life.” —Jack Kornfeld

Tell your own story from the heart in this creative memoir writing workshop with distinguished writer and NPR commentator Nancy Slonim Aronie.

Memoir as medicine is a workshop about the healing power of getting your story out of your body, out of your liver, out of your pancreas, out of your heart! It’s about writing the truth of who you are, taking the risk of saying ‘this is what happened to me' and letting it go. Memoir as medicine is just what the doctor ordered.

And it’ll turn out that you are your own doctor!

Nancy says, “I can’t teach writing. I don’t think anyone can. But I can make it safe and I’ve learned when people feel safe, they go deep. The writing gets more powerful, the heart goes deeper, and the words flow faster. Getting the story of your life out of your body means you don’t have to carry the weight of it around anymore. When people ask if it’s therapy, I answer, ‘No, but it’s therapeutic to write the truth.’”

This workshop is about being in a safe place to sound like you, to write your story in your own language, your own rhythms, for your own purpose. It can be for your grandkids. It can be for your own self reflection or it can be your best seller on the New York Times best seller list. You don't have to decide in advance. Just write it. If you’re already working on some thing, you can use her prompts for your own particular needs. If you’ve been stuck, this workshop will unstick you. If you’re in the flow already you will come away with validation.

Through inspiring and empowering discussions, prompts, and tips, learn how to:

  • Silence the inner critic

  • Honor your truth

  • Write in your authentic voice.

  • Take home tools that help you maintain a rhythm for a sustainable at-home practice.
