Help Send a Kid To Camp at Rowe.
Summer camp is a place of exploration of self, late night chats, long-lasting friendships, sun-soaked cabins, and delicious roasted marshmallows. Do you remember the smell of campfire that was impossible to get out? The songs where everyone was slightly off-tune? The first step into the lake during a hot day? At Rowe, we believe that every summer has a story. Do you remember your story? The Woodside Diversity Fund offers youth who wouldn’t otherwise be able to come to camp the opportunity to experience the Rowe Spirit. By donating as little as $10 dollars, you can be part of a new camper’s story.
We only have $4344 left to raise this year for Woodside Scholarships!!!

Since 1924, Rowe Camp has been touching the hearts and souls of young people, because it’s a place where young people and their culture are respected. The invitation at the heart of the camp is to form deep connections; to be honest, real, and authentic, and accept and respect ourselves and others.
We believe that this experience should be available to all children. For as long as Rowe has been in existence, we have provided scholarships in order to make camp accessible for children of families at all income levels. In 1999, we broadened that vision to intentionally create a program that would create a camp community that reflected the diversity of our society.
The Woodside Scholarship Fund is a program for our youth summer camps. It is made up of two components: the Woodside Diversity Program, which provides full scholarships to children from diverse racial and ethnic populations and the General Scholarship Program, which provides partial scholarships in order to have economic diversity in our camp programs.
Rowe offers a protected, nonjudgmental space where young people—the leaders of tomorrow—are unafraid to relate and connect in a diverse community by learning to interact in caring, thoughtful ways that honor the principles of social justice.
Our children are growing up in a global society, and we need to prepare them. They need a place to come and relax, a place to feel at ease being who they are, a place to explore new ideas and new ways of being in this world, a place to become comfortable with differences, join a community rich in diversity, and to reach beyond the differences to make lasting connections.
While Rowe Camp has a long tradition of modeling peace and justice, many families do not have the financial resources to send their kids to Rowe. The Woodside Fund offers kids who wouldn’t otherwise be able to come to camp the opportunity to experience the Rowe Spirit — and we think that, in doing so, the experience will be all the more rich and meaningful for every Rowe camper.
Once a child has attended Rowe, he or she becomes a vital part of our community. As such, we’re committing to providing scholarship support for a child for each year of camp, as long as he or she is able to attend and needs financial support to do so. This is a big obligation, and it is your help that makes it possible.
The Woodside Fund enriches the experience of all the campers by exposing them to cultures that they are not normally a part of. At the same time, we are providing a meaningful experience to young people who would otherwise not be able to afford camp. Our campers enjoy all the silly and fun antics that are part of every camp experience while also learning to live together in a cooperative value-based community. The skills, awareness, and consciousness that are built here enter the larger society when our campers return home.
Rowe has been blessed to have the loving support of Margaret Woodside for many years. In honor of Margaret, and her commitment to diversity and social justice, this fund bears her name.
The Woodside Scholarship Fund Needs Your Help
We need your help more than ever. Historically, we have given out more money than we receive through the scholarship fund, and we take those funds from general donations or operational fees. Recently, we have faced a number of major facility repairs that have also needed our attention. Despite this challenge, we’re committed to continuing our support of the Woodside Scholarship Fund.
This year we raised $11,1150.00 through Valley Gives Day, sponsored by the Community Foundation of Western MA. Most of the money however, comes from the generosity of our extended Rowe community: Rowe Camp alumni, parents of campers, long-time friends of Rowe, and new guests who heard of the program and were moved to give all come together to make this program possible. Won’t you join us in sustaining this program?
