Trebbe Johnsonis a writer and a guide of vision quests, workshops, and other mythic journeys. In 2009, she founded Radical Joy for Hard Times, a non-profit organization devoted to finding and making beauty in the earth’s wounded places, and she currently serves as executive director. She has camped alone in the Arctic, studied classical Indian dance, written about the Navajo and Hopi people, and slept in beautiful wilderness areas — from her own back yard to the Sahara Desert. Trebbe Johnson lives with her husband in rural northeastern Pennsylvania.
Happiness is conditional; joy is not. Join Trebbe and discover how joy, deep and abiding, can flourish in any conditions — even in times as hard as ours.
Do you struggle as you witness threats against freedom, equality, justice, and the health of the environment? In a bewildering new world, the old maps have become obsolete. How can you find a path out of grief and helplessness? In this time of peril for our planet, how can you remain alert to the dangers and still find joy?
In this inspiring weekend, you’ll learn how Radical Joy begins with a willingness to face your suffering. This process empties you of fear, projection, and angst about what might be and opens you to the moment, in a refreshing space of honesty and receptivity. You’ll become newly attentive to surprising outbursts of beauty and generosity — in nature, in your friends and family, and in stories you hear of others. You’ll learn, too, that once you’ve received these gifts of beauty, you must extend yourself beyond your experience of suffering to give beauty outward — and in that giving is joy.
